This dissertation argued that environment and climate change, crime, immigration, terrorism, and energy supply have all been framed as security issues in the European Union and responded to with security measures. Each issue has been subject to collective securitization, although the extent of collective securitization has depended on audience participation in the process. In particular, the analysis showed the interactive process of collective securitization and how the public opinion reflects the audience acceptance in interaction. The statistical analysis showed the explanatory variables that predict prioritizing one security issue over the other issues in public opinion.
